Yellowstone Star Kevin Costner’s $145M Beachfront Home Revealed Post-Divorce Battle

Kevin Costner recently gave fans a rare glimpse inside his sprawling $145 million beachfront estate in Santa Barbara, California. The Yellowstone star, 70, shared a casual Instagram video showing himself relaxing in the luxurious home alongside his dog, Bob.

In the footage, fans can catch breathtaking views of the ocean from the living room as Costner lounges comfortably with his laptop. While chatting with his playful pup, the camera slowly pans around the space, revealing an elegantly decorated interior. The living area features a plush off-white couch facing a wall-mounted flat-screen TV, set against stunning floor-to-ceiling windows that flood the room with natural light.

Built-in wall storage, cozy beige lounge chairs, and a large striped rainbow rug add texture and pops of color to the gray-brown wood flooring. Dark wood end tables punctuate the neutral palette of whites, beiges, and grays, while the walls are painted crisp white, complemented by sleek black window frames for a modern, clean look.

Just off the living room is a small dining area, complete with a white table surrounded by wooden chairs, a contemporary light fixture, tall leafy plants, and blue glass vases displayed atop a credenza. Above the fireplace, located next to the TV, ocean-themed artwork adds a fitting decorative touch.

Though the video highlights the home’s elegant design, the main focus is on Bob’s adorable begging antics as he carries his food bowl around the room in his mouth, much to Costner’s amusement.

Costner purchased the Santa Barbara compound for $60 million in 2017, during his marriage to Christine Baumgartner. The couple, who shared 18 years of marriage and three children, divorced in May 2023 after a highly publicized and contentious split. Their divorce battle included disputes over the division of assets, particularly their $145 million marital home.

Shortly after the separation, Costner claimed Baumgartner refused to vacate the property, despite their prenuptial agreement. A judge eventually ordered her to move out by July 2023, after which she relocated to a $40,000-per-month rental in nearby Montecito. The divorce was finalized in February 2024, with Costner agreeing to pay $63,000 monthly in child support.

This April Instagram video isn’t the first time Costner has showcased his impressive 10-acre bachelor retreat. Last April, he shared footage while unveiling his custom 2023 F-250 Powerstroke diesel 4×4, designed by Arizona’s Lifted Trucks. The video captured the star enjoying the estate’s ocean views and relaxing with his 17-year-old son, Cayden.

“I wasn’t sure what I was going for,” Costner said about the custom truck, “but when they dropped it off at my front door in Santa Barbara, I was really excited.” He added, “I don’t know if mine looks cool, but it feels cool. It works for me.”

The estate itself is perched on a dramatic clifftop with unparalleled ocean vistas. While Costner originally envisioned a dream home complete with a pool and guest house, family commitments and time spent at his Aspen residence delayed those plans. The property boasts 500 feet of private beach surrounded by cliffs and features a recreational house outfitted with outdoor furniture and umbrellas.

Before purchasing this compound, Costner already owned a beachfront home in Carpinteria. In 2006, he acquired a 17-acre parcel with a modest two-bedroom, two-bathroom ranch for $28.5 million after spotting a “For Sale” sign during a jog. The following year, he sold seven acres to a neighbor and combined the remaining land and homes into one expansive estate.

The original property included a polo field that Costner converted into a baseball field, where, according to a longtime friend, “We’ve had some great baseball games there.” The estate also offers views of the Santa Barbara mountains, several islands, and features its own horseback riding trail.

Costner put the stunning property on the market in 2017 for $60 million, but the listing was later withdrawn without a sale. Interestingly, in 2022, the adjacent property was listed for a staggering $109 million.

With an estimated net worth around $250 million, Costner’s earnings have been impressive over the years. He reportedly earned $1.5 million per episode during his time on Yellowstone, making him one of the highest-paid actors on television. In the 1990s, he was among Hollywood’s top earners, collecting $14 million for his role in Waterworld and more than $40 million for Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, thanks to a lucrative profit-sharing deal. Earlier, he earned $3 million for Dances With Wolves in 1990.
