Kevin Costner Calls Whitney Houston His ‘One True Love’ Years After The Bodyguard

Kevin Costner Reflects on His Deep Bond with Whitney Houston

Kevin Costner has shared heartfelt memories of his late The Bodyguard co-star, Whitney Houston, expressing profound love and admiration for the music icon before her tragic passing in 2012.

The two starred together in the 1992 hit film The Bodyguard, which featured Houston’s iconic rendition of I Will Always Love You. During filming, the pair developed a close friendship that lasted for years, with Costner later describing Houston as his “one true love” and saying he felt “lucky” to have known her.

Their bond remained strong until Houston’s untimely death from accidental drowning, which deeply affected Costner. Although he had once considered making a sequel to The Bodyguard with Princess Diana, Costner remained committed to his friendship with Houston. He even delivered an emotional tribute at her funeral, speaking candidly about their relationship and the impact she had on his life.

In the months following her death, Costner revealed that he had tried to support Houston during her struggles with addiction. Speaking with Anderson Cooper, he shared that he had written her letters in hopes of offering encouragement and help.

“There are some people who really loved Whitney,” he said. “A couple of times over the last seven or eight years, they asked me if I would write her a letter. And I did.”

Costner added, “She would always be close to me—someone I truly appreciated. When someone asks you to write a letter to someone you care about who’s going through a hard time, you do it. I don’t know if those letters were ever read, but I hope they helped.”
